Our dead are never dead to us...
until we have forgotten them
In the early months of grief, I would light a candle after the kids went to bed, turn on sad or peaceful music, think about my late husband and cry.
Through my tears, I felt deeply connected to him.
On his first death anniversary, I contacted a medium.
Despite my skepticism, I believed that Ian was there…guiding me through her cryptic codes and messages.
On his birthday, father’s day, and every milestone in between, I talked about Ian. I gathered my kids to look at old pictures together, told stories, lit wish paper, and remembered what an amazing human being he was.
By remembering my late husband, I kept his spirit alive!
It’s been almost four years since my husband’s death and Ian feels more present than ever.
He is integrated into every thing I do...
The decisions I make moving forward
The woman who I am becoming
The life that I'm creating without him
Because I've carefully created this connection!
Now I want to share how you can too.
Celebrate LIFE as you Remember the DEAD
In Spirit
A 2-Day Community Event
Nov 1& 2 | 4pm PST / 7pm EST
I created In Spirit to help anyone grieving the loss of a loved one find connection:
To a community who understands, and
to the deceased.
I believe that death kills a person -- not a relationship; and that with an open-mind, grief education and gentle guidance you create a lasting connection with the deceased through love and gratitude.
In this two-day event you will:
- Explore ways to maintain a relationship with the deceased (beyond the physical)
- Embrace duality to find love in the pain, and hold gratitude as you grieve your loss
- Celebrate your person’s life through storytelling & connecting with others who understand
- Connect with your loved one through intentional breath-work and gentle movement
- Set an intention to create a lasting connection with the deceased and to support you this holiday season
The In Spirit event will take place over two 90-min sessions on two different days - Tuesday, November 1 and Wednesday, November 2 both starting at 4pm PST / 7pm EST.
DAY 1
Emily will kick-off the two day event with a welcome ceremony and workshop. Participants will have the chance to share stories about their loved one in small break-out rooms and connect as a community. Then, they will learn how to create a lasting connection with their loved one by exploring key concepts of integration, self-care & rituals in grief, and breaking down the misconception that a relationship ends in death.
DAY 2
Participants will be invited to bring their deceased loved one’s photo, favorite food or drink, or an item that reminds them of their person to create a virtual ofrenda. moveTHRU Movement & Support Coach Yole Anna Hines will then guide the group in a gentle movement and breath-work session to connect participants with the deceased. There will be time at the end of the movement session to discuss what came up with Yole & Emily and to further connect as a community. The event will end with a closing ceremony that solidifies the connection established between community members and their deceased.

About Dia De Los Muertos
The Day of the Dead is a two-day holiday that reunites the living and dead. It's mostly observed in Mexico, but also in other places.
Family and friends gather and create ofrendas. They decorate these altars with the favorite foods and beverages of the deceased, and bright yellow marigold flowers, which are believed to guide the dead back home to reunite with their families. All of these offerings are meant to encourage visits from the dead.
Day of the dead is a celebration of death and life! It's not somber or sad event.
The adornment of sugar skulls -- calavera -- are often seen smiling. This symbolizes a friendly nod to death — even mocking it!
Day of the Dead removes the stigma around death, about talking about the deceased and reinforces that fact that you can create an enternal connection to the deceased...
thru love, with gratitude
in SPIRIT!
